A plugin to host fonts and icons on your own server would be a good solution - a complete deactivation of Google Webfonts Mark, is there something in planning?

I think a solution like the wordpress plugin, using the simplicity (for dev) of google font, while respecting the GDPR wouldn't be bad .The solution seems to be open source

In Germany, there was a court ruling on google fonts at the beginning of last year, which forbids loading a font located on google servers without the prior consent of the user. This is practically tantamount to a ban, as user habits make it impossible to obtain consent before viewing the website. Since then, warnings have been issued in Germany with costs, in other countries this should have a role model character.
